Other international documents
There are other international and regional human rights conventions and treaties that give effect to civil, political and ESC rights. We are unable to go into all these documents in any detail here but we will provide you with references that you can look up on the internet. You are encouraged to look these up in order to familiarise yourself with their contents.
It is also important that you know which of these international human rights documents your government has ratified because this means the provisions contained in the document are binding on them (refer to the chart that you filed in your workfile).
The following chart provides a list of the names of the most important treaties that you will probably need to use in the course you are about to do and in your day-to-day work. We include their abbreviations and some useful website references. Most of the treaties are available in the Resource centre. You can print this out and put it in your workfile.
Domestic laws
In the following examples we look at certain specific rights and at the international and regional conventions and specific articles that apply in each case. Click to view and print this document.
For your own information you can do some research and find out what domestic laws (laws in your own country) would apply in each case and fill this in to the remaining spaces. When you have done this, put the completed document in your workfile.
